The audio chain we use

Business Class sessions use the Shure SM7B, the dynamic microphone heard on many of the world’s biggest podcasts, into a RODECaster Pro II console. Economy Class sessions use the Shure MV7+ with a Zoom PodTrak P8 recorder. Both setups record every speaker on a separate track, which matters later when one person laughs loudly or leans away from the mic.

Why the room matters as much as the mic

A good microphone in an echoey room still sounds like an echoey room. Our studio is acoustically treated and soundproof, so there is no fan hum, traffic or bounce from bare walls. That gives the editor a clean base, and the final episode needs less processing, which keeps voices natural.

Editing and mastering

Removing long pauses, false starts and background noise.
